What we do
Saving memories made easy
We do all the fiddley stuff – you put your feet up and enjoy your films.
Our traditional cine film transfer is projector based coupled to a Sony Telecine convertor and recorded in real time digital download.
The quality of the recording reflects the source material provided.
Most standard cine film cameras of their time did not have a great focal lenght only very expensive or profession cameras with zoom lens would. And so you often find close shots are great where as distant / background shots are crisp and clear, slighty blurred / out off focus.
Damaged films
Notes – old cine film condition:
Film should be supple , flexible. If it is brittle is no good, it will break up as soon as you try to run the film. N.B It is sometimes possible to treat brittle films. It is not someting we do, you would need to take it to an expert.
If the film has a white crusty layer or mildew its been exposed to damp or is water damaged and cannot be saved.
Check condition
Most damage to films is found at the begining or end of the film.
You can check your film by hand. If you hold the film between your thumb and forefinger and gently slip it though you can feel the perfarations on one edge. If it feels rough the film will jump or judder slightly. If it is torn it will break or jam up the projector. However, damage may be hiden within the film reel where it has torn and / or jammed in the projector.
Don’t worry, this is something we are used to dealing with.!
Old cine films may be damaged, worn, dirty, faded, lost definition, colour – They are sill worth saving. Even if really faded, it may still jolt a memory worth saving.
We do our best, paying close attension to each cine film reel recording and can compensate by making some minor setting adjustments whilst live recording when ever possible.
Cleaning film
We do not clean films as part of our service.
You can buy film cleaning materials online. It is a very time consuming task and there is possibility you may damage or mark / stain the film(s).
In our experience we believe the films are best left to show their age…It is the memories that matter most and the finished cine film transfer detinatley evocs those precious memories.
